Christmas Cactus bud drop

Bud drop often follows a change in temperature, light, or root-ball moisture after buds form. Check the trip home from a store as well as changes within the room.

Keep flowering conditions steady

Place the plant in bright indirect light away from heating vents and cold drafts. Water when the upper mix starts drying and empty runoff; during bud development, this forest cactus should not be dried like a desert cactus.

If stem segments are also limp or yellowing, check roots instead of treating bud loss alone. Fallen buds cannot be restored with fertilizer; sound growth and the next flowering cycle are the useful goals.
