Segments facing suddenly stronger sun may turn pale or reddish. Yellowing with wilt, a wet pot, or soft joints calls for a root check.

Exposure or moisture

Move a sun-damaged plant into bright filtered light. If the root ball is dry, water evenly and drain; if it is wet, remove collected runoff and wait for the upper layer to begin drying.

Inspect roots if limpness persists in wet mix. Remove rotten tissue and refresh decomposed medium. Older woody stems are normal, but wet-soft or translucent segments are damaged tissue and should not be dismissed as aging.
